Should I Buy an Extended Warranty?

When a new appliance is purchased, the manufacturer warranty is typically one year. After that, the protection is gone. You are on your own if your ice maker stops working in your refrigerator, or if the control board goes out in your oven. These repairs can be expensive. Our service manager reported that the average repair is $290 and a major repair can be as much as $1100. The extended warranty would have covered all of the cost on that broken ice maker or control board including parts and labor! Buying an extended warranty would eliminate dealing with the cost and aggravation of unexpected repair costs. Don's Appliances sells a warranty that is good for a total of 5 years from the date of delivery. This covers all parts and labor... bumper to bumper. It includes damage from surge protection and the no lemon guarantee. It also covers food loss up to $200. There are no deductions or hidden costs. It does not cover things like maintenance or parts or repairs due to normal wear and tear- unless, it is tied to a break down. The cost for having this peace of mind is relatively inexpensive. A typical 25 cubic foot refrigerator with ice and water in the door would cost $259. That comes to a little over $50 a year. A typical washer, dryer or dishwasher would cost $159, a little over $30 a year.

The best part of purchasing an extended warranty through Don's Appliances is that we have our own service department to take care of your break down. Most of our competitors do not have their own service and they would contract your repair out, often to someone who may not be trained to work on your appliance. With Don's Appliances extended warranty- you can be sure the technician that comes to your home is trained and certified to do your repair and will complete the job as quickly as possible.

One last thought, think about how hard your appliance is working. The refrigerator is running 24/7. The washer and dryer are running an average of 8 times per week, and the dishwasher and oven are running an average of 4-5 times per week. Paying a little extra up front to make sure you do not have that unexpected expense is recommended!
