Washer and Dryer Combo: Pros and Cons

    by Samantha Tobin

If you have a small space for your washer and dryer, you will probably need a washer and dryer combo unit. Especially living in smaller houses and apartments located in downtown Pittsburgh, you may not be able to fit a full-size washer and dryer. Luckily there are a few different options you can choose from when you need a smaller washer and dryer. A laundry center is the most common and well known, but now, there are all in one washer and dryer appliances.

    Laundry Center:

A laundry center comes in two different sizes, 24” and 27” wide. The 24” wide is going to be around 1.6 cu.ft. while the 27” wide is going to be about 3.5 cu.ft. The laundry center is perfect for small tight closets. The Whirlpool WETLV27HW is 3.5 cu.ft. and offers nine wash cycles. This model’s cost is around $1304. Some cycles include delicate, quick wash, drain and spin, and more. This model offers an AutoDry system too. The AutoDry senses when the clothes are dry and will automatically stop the cycle. This model has a dual-action agitator with a fabric softener dispenser. The machine will add the softer at the right time. All you need to do is add the softer in the center of the agitator before the cycle begins.

    All-In-One Washer and Dryer:

If you don’t have the height for a laundry center, an all in one washer and dryer would be perfect for you. The Whirlpool WFC8090GX is 2.8 cu.ft and is $1530. It is WIFI connected which is perfect if you are on the go a lot. The Whirlpool app will let you start or pause the wash or dry cycle while you are away. If you are going to be out for a while and don’t want to start the wash cycle right away, this allows you to have the clothes dry as soon as you get home and ready to be folded. The washer is going to offer 28 different cycles. Another great feature is the load and go dispenser. You fill up the dispenser with detergent and fabric softener and the washer will do the guesswork for you. This feature should last you about 20 loads. This washer does offer a pedestal to raise the height of it. Not only will the pedestal raise the washer up so you don’t have to bend over, but it also acts as a storage space. You can store your cleaning products, detergent, and other supplies down below.

Whether you prefer the traditional laundry center style or a smart appliance, both are going to get the job done.
