In this week's episode of Truck Talk, Cole answers questions that we commonly get asked about Delivery and Installation like, "How long does it take for a full kitchen installation? Where do my old appliances go? and what should I do to prepare for my refrigerator install?" Since we're not limited to only a minute of blog writing (unlike the video Q&A!), here's more information!
I live on the 12th floor of an apartment (it has a freight elevator), will you deliver?
Yes, as cumbersome as it may be, we will deliver to units in apartment complexes. If you’re on the 12th floor you will need to have a freight elevator in order for us to deliver (most do!). You’ll, of course, want to mention this to your Don’s Appliances’ Sales Associate so that they can notify delivery that a site visit is needed prior to install. During the site visit our Delivery and Installation Techs will measure to make certain appliances will fit through the path they’ll need to take in order to get them into your kitchen and prepare for the D/I appointment if anything additional is needed.
How long does it take for a full kitchen installation?
When we say ‘full kitchen install’ we’re referring to a standard four-piece set— refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and microwave. Many people go above a standard package with pieces like a built-in microwave, a warming drawer, a double wall oven, under counter beverage center, built-in coffee maker, and the list continues.
This varies based on the type of appliances you purchase. A 48” dual-fuel range takes longer to move, hook up and install than a 36” slide-in electric range. A microwave that sits on a counter requires no installation whereas a microwave drawer or over-the-range microwave could require significant time, and the same goes for a counter depth refrigerator as opposed to refrigeration/ freezer columns. Cole is correct in saying that the AVERAGE installation takes 4 to 5 hours, though.
Where do my old appliances go?
We’ve had a partnership with Habitat for Humanity for over a decade now, donating used appliances to their ReStore in Swissvale as often as we can. If we get appliances that are working and are in good condition aesthetically, we store them in our warehouse and ReStore picks them up once a week. Some appliances, however, aren’t working when we remove them from a home. These appliances are hauled away by a scrap truck.
What should I do to prepare for my refrigerator install?
YOU don’t have to do anything to prepare for a refrigerator install other than the obvious— make sure there is nothing on the floor obstructing the path of getting your refrigerator out. If you have young children or animals it’s always a good idea to keep them out of the area our techs are working in.
Our Delivery and Installation Techs prepare for a refrigerator install by protecting your flooring, turning off the water so there’s no water line leakage, taking measurements to ensure that it will fit properly before sliding it into place and will transfer the contents of your old refrigerator into the new one.
