    Cleaning your dishwasher is an easy task that a lot of people either forget to do, or they don’t know how to clean them. Dishwashers should be cleaned at least once a month to prevent germs and help it run effectively.

    The first step is to check the drain on your dishwasher. Simply pull out the bottom rack so you can examine the drain better. Check the drain to see if there are any leftover food particles that did not dissolve. Then, empty it and place it back into the dishwasher. Emptying the drain often will make sure that your dishes will not be sitting in a puddle of water.

    Next, do a wash cycle with a cup of vinegar. Vinegar will help remove grease, odor, and it will sanitize the tub. Take a dishwasher safe cup and fill it with white vinegar and place it on the top rack of the dishwasher. Then, run the dishwasher on a normal cycle with the hottest setting. This should help with the odor you smell when you open the dishwasher.

    Once that cycle finishes, sprinkle baking soda across the bottom of the tub. You will then run the dishwasher on another cycle. You can run this on a shorter cycle, but you should be using the hottest water. The baking soda will help remove any more stains that the vinegar did not pick up. Also, baking soda will help with the smell too.

    Cleaning dishwashers are not a hard process, but it can be lengthy. These three steps will leave your dishwasher looking a lot cleaner and smelling better.
