Is the Galley Workstation Worth the Money and Space it Takes up?

    by Trudy Shaffer

The Galley Workstation is the ultimate indulgence for both those who love to open their doors to family and friends and those of us who are prepping and cooking those family meals on the fly! This innovative kitchen workstation is designed to provide a modern and efficient space to prep and serve meals that are sure to impress your friends and family. When I built my new home, I kept in mind that my guests always congregated in the kitchen. It is the heart of the home. With the Galley Workstation, we have an area where my husband can set up the full buffet-style service as I prepare the appetizers, and the best part is- we don’t have to miss a beat visiting with our guests as they enjoy a glass of wine at the gourmet kitchen island.

So, you’re probably wondering what The Workstation looks like, and how exactly does it work? The Galley is designed with multiple levels to hold the various accessories, giving the cook maximum space to prepare his or her meal. I love the fact that my cutting board can rest on the top ledge of my workstation while I chop vegetables, and I can easily slide them with my knife into the colander a level directly below. Then, I can rinse my vegetables with The Galley Tap faucet. The leftover debris on my cutting board is conveniently scraped into the sink level disposer. The colander platform can now slide right under my cutting board level, to allow me room for the next accessory to be slid into its place. Maximum functionality in minimum space. Every Chef’s dream!

The Workstation is available in many sizes. From an 18” wide prep bar sink to a 7’ long workstation. It has been fully engineered to accommodate the multiple accessories that are included with each Galley. For example, a 7’ Galley Workstation can be purchased with one or two sink bowls. The sink is constructed of 16 gauge stainless steel and finished with The Galley custom “Angel Finish” to protect the workstation from wear and allow ease of cleaning. Each 7’ Galley Workstation includes 3 multi-tier cutting boards, 2 multi-tier drying racks, 2 multi-tier platforms that hold the 2 stainless serving bowls and the 2 stainless colanders. The stainless bowls and colanders have a non-slip bottom to make prep work less prone to spills. The cutting boards, drying racks and platforms are available in 2 different materials (wood or resin) and 4 different finishes. Using my Workstation to serve guests is my favorite feature. I can create a whole salad bar with all of the prep and the clean up right at my fingertips. I can transform it into a taco bar, a charcuterie bar or a complete barbeque buffet- the possibilities are endless. By adding a cooktop within arm’s length of The Galley, I now have a complete prep, cook, serve and cleanup area that will save me so much time and make feeding my family and entertaining my friends more relaxing. And the convenience doesn’t end with entertaining. The Galley Workstation is ideal for your little helpers as well, the unique design allows room for all of the kids to participate in making the family meal.

And on those days that I have a lot of “help” from the children, clean-up is a must ☺ This brings me to the need for The Galley Tap faucet. Due to the large sink size in The Galley Workstation (up to 7 feet long), the Tap faucet was created with a 27” hose reach. This is a much longer reach than most pulldown faucets to make cleaning and working at The Galley more efficient. The tap is very sleek, modern, and has a smooth pulldown from the dock. It is recommended that two Taps be installed with any Workstation over 4 feet long. This allows two people to work side-by-side with ease.

I’m sure at this point you are wondering about the cost... The average cost of a luxury kitchen remodel is $80,000. A fully loaded Galley Workstation would be less than 10% of your budget. Less than your Subzero fridge or 48” Thermador dual fuel stove. Your sink and faucet are the most used appliances in your home, so treat yourself! Make your daily life easier and entertaining a breeze. The Galley Workstation is my dream island, and truly the centerpiece of my home.
