Is two better than one? If you have a large family, entertain a lot, or just enjoy cooking, a double oven may be right for you. If you are switching from a freestanding range to a single wall oven, the wall oven will have less capacity than the freestanding range.
When choosing a double wall oven, you will now be able to bake six racks of cookies at the same time with a double convection oven! Think of the time savings to be able to cut your baking time in half. Not only does it allow you to bake six racks of cookies, you also can cook multiple dishes at once. When cooking multiple dishes simultaneously, you can do so without mixing odors and aromas of different foods using two ovens. One oven can serve as the oven you cook in while the other can keep food warm.
Another feature double ovens offer is the ability to have a convection oven in the top oven and a standard oven on the bottom. Remember, a double oven does not double the price but doubles the options. If you would rather have two separate ovens, in most kitchens, having two separate ovens is an option instead of the double wall oven. One obvious choice is to purchase a 48" or 60" range with two ovens. This would locate all the cooking appliances in one spot. Another way to get two ovens is to use either a 30” or 36" freestanding or slide-in range with a single wall oven in another location. If you are planning to use a cooktop and don't have the wall space for a double built-in oven you can use two single built-in ovens installed under your counter.
Another popular option is the combo double oven. The top oven is both smaller convection combined with a microwave. The bottom oven is a full-size convection oven. You can use the upper oven to cook anything that you cook in the larger oven only on a smaller scale, some even come with a broiler element. You then have the option of the microwave either as a stand-alone or in combination with the convection oven. This option will give you two ovens and find a place for the microwave without taking up more space.
As you can see, there are many options. The best choice when deciding on what oven fits you best, consider how you cook, which option that suits your needs the best, and how that translates into your kitchen design.
