The BEST Way to Make Cocktail Shrimp
Want flavor packed cocktail shrimp? We are going to show you a quick and easy way to make shrimp cocktail on your induction, or any cooktop.
Start by adding 3 cups of water to a pot and bring this to a boil. We’ll add ¼ teaspoon of salt and pepper, and 1 teaspoon of old bay. For some sweetness add ¼ of a white onion. If you keep the onion in wedges this will be easier to fish out of the broth once this is done. Add about ½ bunch of parsley to tie all the flavors together.
Quarter a half a lemon and squeeze it before placing it in the pot. We’ll boil this for a few minutes to reduce it down. You don’t want to dry out the ingredients by boiling this for too long. While you wait, fill a medium to large size bowl with ice and cold water. After cooking the shrimp, we’ll place them immediately into this ice bath. This will shock them which will preserve their color and texture.
Once the broth has simmered for a few minutes, carefully place the shrimp in your pot. You don’t want to drop them all in at once, that’s how you burn yourself. Just place them in gently one-by-one or a few at a time.
Let these cook in this broth for about 3 to 5 minutes. Make sure to give the shrimp a squeeze and if they are firm and not soft that’s a good indication, they’re ready. Bring the heat down and get your ice bath ready. Once these have reached the desired texture, dunk them directly into the ice bath. These will be ready to refrigerate immediately or serve and enjoy right away.
You could even save these for a dish later such as a shrimp po’boy, seafood salad, anything you want to use shrimp for. Serve it with cocktail sauce, platter it up, and enjoy it.
