Some models will have grates built into the bottom of the chimney. Most times all you’ll need to do is push up and pull it towards you. This should release the sides from the hood allowing for easy removal.
Most times you’ll be able to see the grease build up on the flat stainless-steel part of the grates. If you see a lot of grease built up on these parts, this means that your hood is ventilating properly. You don’t want this grease on your cooking surface.
You’ll want to clean these every 2 to 3 months depending on how often you’re cooking. Most hoods make their grates dishwasher safe. You can place these in the dishwasher on the heavy cycle and these will come out grease-free and shiny. Some dishwashers even have a setting for washing grates, but if not the heavy cycle will work just as well.

Make sure you also run these in a cycle by themselves. Since there’s so much grease on these, if you run them with other dishes this can actually stick to your glassware or silverware or plates. You don’t want any of that dirt on the dishes you’ll be eating off of.
Run these through a heavy cycle once, and then it’s recommended to do a blank cycle afterwards.What that means is put a dishwasher cleaning tab into your dishwasher the second time and run it again. This will just help remove any dust, oil, allergens, or anything else you don’t want on these than might be tucked in the grates. Your grates should then come out clean and free of any unwanted grease or dust.
