What is Sous Vide? How Do You Use it?
What is sous vide and how do you use it? There are many ranges that include a sous vide system, or you can use a sous vide system on its own. We are going to show you how to use sous vide on the LG Signature 48” Pro Style Dual Fuel Range.
Every sous vide system will be a stainless-steel tub that you will fill with water. This sits on top of an electric burner which will heat up the tub and the water. The heated water then circulates your vacuum sealed food and cooks it. This will compress all of the flavors, and the longer the food stays in here the more these flavors will build.
You want to make sure you have a vacuum sealer and bags. You can place whatever you are cooking into these bags along with whatever seasonings you want. You can easily season and place a pot roast with carrots and potatoes in a bag, or even make buffalo chicken dip. All you need to do is add all of your ingredients to the bag and then seal it.
This is a convection style cooking since the heat will be circulating your dish in the water bath. If the sous vide system is on a range, then the knob to adjust the heat will be built in. You can also adjust the time right on the range. Before placing your food in you’ll want to preheat the water. Typically, your temperature will be anywhere from 150 to 250 degrees.
If you’re one who likes to meal prep, this would be super simple to use vacuum sealed dishes for your sous vide system. You can also take your dishes right from your fridge or even your freezer. Frozen food will obviously take longer, but you don’t have to worry about thawing it out before placing it in the sous vide.
There is an option to place a rack down on top to keep the bag from floating to the top. This will typically be used for veggies or anything light. If you have heavier proteins, you won’t have to worry about this.
Anything you want to cook in this, you can. From rice to pork loins, to eggs, you can make anything with sous vide. We made some asparagus and carrots in the sous vide system for about 15 minutes. This kept all of the nutrients and flavors of the veggies, while keeping them soft and tender but not too floppy and soggy.
Elevate your next meal by making it in sous vide. Not only will you get a depth of all the flavors you incorporate into your dish, but you’ll get an even cook without taking away any moisture.
