What is Induction? How Does it Work?

Induction is one of the best cooktops for making dinner in minutes. Reduce your cook time, and don’t wait for your food any longer. We are going to show you all of the advantages of cooking on induction.

How does induction work? These cooktops will be built with ferromagnetic magnets underneath. This just means it won’t head unless a similar magnet is placed over top. This is where the magnetic pots and pans will come in.

A common question is if you need magnetic cookware in order to cook on induction, and the answer is yes. Normal cookware won’t make the magnetic connection which will cause the pan to heat. Most models of induction cooktops will have lights on the sides which will indicate which zones are heated and in use.

Induction will differ from your gas or electric stove tops in multiple ways. This is a flat surface, so it just takes a few wipes to clean. Versus a stove top with raised grates where food and sauce can get stuck around the burners. Induction won’t heat unless you have a compatible magnetic pan on the surface, so you won’t have to worry about burning yourself during the cooking or cleaning steps.

Induction will also create a cooking surface wherever you place your cookware. You could place it in the middle, on the right corner, or anywhere where the magnets will connect to make heat. This allows you to have multiple things cooking at once of all different sizes; you aren’t limited by burner size.

These will also only keep the pans hot, so you can place your hand right beside the pot and not get burned. This trick can be used to make clean easier too. If you wanted to catch grease and splatters, just place parchment paper orpaper towels down under your pot or pan and it won’t burn. Instead, it will catch any grease, drippings, or other mess.

On certain induction models there will also be timers for the burners. That way you don’t have to worry about cooking your food for too long and burning it. Some might have small kids at home, or cats who walk on the counter, and if you’re worried about them hitting buttons and turning on the cooktop, there is a lock feature.

This will lock the electronics on the induction, so nothing can be turned on. The induction offers a versatile and compact way to cook.

Using our Thermador Freedom 30" Induction Cooktop, we put some pasta sauce on low, while boiling pasta on the top zone on high, and cooking sausages on medium-high heat at the same time. This speeds up cooking, meaning you’ll spend less time in the kitchen. But this also means we are cooking efficiently. All quick, easy, and less messy on induction.
