The growing need and desire for smart kitchens is propelling kitchen faucet design into the future. Consumers and Interior Designers are moving away from traditional styling and leaning more toward a modern feel. A beautiful transitional faucet is the main request in today’s marketplace. A unique finish is highly sought after. Kitchen, bathroom, and bar faucets are not only necessary, but they can also be pieces of art. DXV recently created three artistic faucets using a 3-D printer!
Homeowners are looking more at flow rates, functionality, and style. More transitional styling is being requested. Consumers are split on the manually operated vs the smart touch or touchless faucets. Aside from consumer’s fears, touchless faucets do not break more often than manual faucets. They can be operated by batteries that only need to be changed approximately one time per year. You also have the option of an adapter that requires an electrical outlet to be installed under the sink creating a simple fix.
Smart and touchless faucets are being requested due to the water shortages in some areas. Manufacturers are taking initiatives to save water and create awareness regarding the water crisis. In trying to save water, they are restricting the flow rates of faucets. Governments are regulating the flow rate in order to encourage people to use as little water as possible. An example of this is the state of California.
New water spray patterns are being introduced. A strong stream spray that is used most often when using your kitchen faucet, a wide spray that is softer for fruits and vegetables and my personal favorite, the intense fan spray for cleaning baking dishes and power washing the sink.
Delta recently announced the Delta ShieldSpray Technology. The ShieldSpray is designed with a direct pressure jetstream of water in the center surrounded by a softer shield keeping the splash factor to a minimum. This provides both a new cleaning technology and helps with the extra mess on your countertop. This technology is available in several different collections allowing you to choose between different styles.
Filtration faucets are also being requested more often. Consumers are becoming increasingly concerned with the types and amount of chemicals added to our water systems making filtration reach an all-time high. These faucets have the ability to filter out additional lead and contaminants that sneak through filtration plants.
As consumers are getting more involved in the fashion design of their spaces, new faucet finishes are being introduced. Brushed gold and brushed bronze are becoming very popular. From a design standpoint, they are updated and add a bit of bling to your kitchen. I like to call them the jewelry in the room because they can be accented with pendant lighting and have accessories in the same finish. Some other finishes that are becoming very popular are matte black, polished chrome, and for a very elegant look, polished nickel. Because black stainless appliances are growing in popularity so quickly, faucets are also starting to see this too.
Everyone wants something in their home that nobody else has… To satisfy their desires, faucet designers are stepping outside of the box. For example, the Waterstone Wheel faucet is so unique and creative that at our recent Home and Garden Show, very few people could walk by it without trying the pulldown functionality and studying it to calculate how the water flows through it. It has received so much interest that Waterstone recently released the Endeavor wheel faucet for a more contemporary look in similar technology. Waterstone has launched 22 new modern faucets confirming that homeowners are heading in a new direction in design as we approach 2020.
Another new trend in kitchens is The Galley Workstation. This amazing technology creates a completely functional space for entertaining and preparing food in one place. Due to the large sink size in The Galley Workstation (up to 6 feet long), the Tap faucet was created with a 27” hose reach. This is a much longer reach than most pulldown faucets to make cleaning and working at The Galley more efficient.
