The Difference Between Maytag & Speed Queen Washers

by Joe Bolkovac

Bosch vs. Miele Built-in Coffee Machines

There are several similarities yet several glaring differences between the SpeedQueen and Maytag top load washers. First, SpeedQueen will only come with a 3.2 cubic ft tub, which may not offer the ability to do larger loads and/or comforters. It will not have the high efficiency label because you can choose your load size based on how much water you want, not how much water the machine tells you that you need. SpeedQueen washers offer a 3yr parts and labor warranty on their mechanical control model and a 5yr warranty on their electronic control units.

Maytag offers a much larger capacity, up to a 4.7 cf unit with an agitator but you can still get one with a smaller tub (4.2 cf). Maytag washers will sense the load size and fill the tub with the appropriate amount of water. You do have the deep fill option that would add additional water as needed. Maytag offers a 1 year full manufactures warranty on most of their lineup but they do offer a 5yr warranty on their higher tier units. Head to head, both options are going to be some of the best built washers in the industry. You have to decide if the larger capacity, or if having total control over your options is more important to you. Either way you would be getting very well built unit for many years or service.
