How to Descale Your Bosch Coffee Maker
We are going to show you how to descale your coffee maker and get your coffee tasting fresh again. This rinsing process will be something you want to consistently do especially if you’re drinking a lot of coffee. If you find you’re having issues with your coffee maker, then try descaling it since there could be a buildup of dirt and coffee grounds that could be preventing it from running smoothly.
Your coffee maker might be one of the most maintenance required pieces in your kitchen. Since you have to keep up with making sure there’s enough beans, water, and making sure nothing is blocking it up so it brews properly. If you don't clean this consistently, this can also change the taste of your coffee.
Certain units will work differently than the Bosch 24" Built in Coffee Machine coffee maker we are using, so if you are uncertain then consult your machine’s manual on how to do this specifically to your model. Most units will have a setting for descaling, and give you steps as you go. Descaling should be done after every 400 to 500 cups of coffee. As mentioned before, this is just a thorough rinse on the entire machine so it’s clean.
Make sure you have descaling tabs for the water compartment in your coffee maker before you start. You’ll also want to make sure you have a tall glass for the water it dispenses while rinsing, so you don’t have a mess on your floor. This model, and most similar coffee makers will have cleaning and services settings. This could be displayed as its own button on the touchpad of the machine. Select this, and then the descaling option if it has one.
It will start by prompting you to empty your drip trays and reinsert them. If you’re uncertain as to where these are, open the front of the machine and there is a container on the bottom which will pull out. This tray will fill up with water drippings, or excess grounds and dirt. Dump the water out of this, then reinsert it. You’ll need to rinse and clean this again later. Make sure this locks in before continuing with the rest of the prompts.
Next, it’ll instruct you to fill the water pitcher in the machine with 17 ounces of water, and add the descaling tab. There will be a line to indicate how much water you should put into this for this step. Then add the descaling tab, which will be an Alka-Seltzer based tablet. This will dissolve in the water which then will run through the whole machine.
This will break apart any ground up coffee left in the machine, any oil, and dirt throughout the machine. Place this back in and make sure it’s locked in before continuing. Close up the front of the machine, and then place your glass under the dispensers on the front of the machine.
This rinse will then take about 19 minutes, which a timer will display on the touchpad of the coffee maker. It will rinse a few times during this process. After the initial rinse, it will tell you to remove the water container on the inside. Remove this, then press the play button. Next it will tell you to rinse the water tank, and if there is a filter in this then replace this. There’s a button on the bottom of the water pitcher that you can press, make sure to press this and check that there’s no more descaling agent left in the container.
Fill this with filtered water and place this container back inside. This will run through the machine again, so make sure you have an empty glass of water under the dispenser. This will ensure there’s no descaling agent left in the machine either. After this point, we will empty the water container, and the drip tray again. Now, you’ll want to thoroughly wash and rinse both of these. You want to make sure to get all of the coffee ground and dirt out of both of these.
Before brewing again, fill up your water pitcher with filtered water. Check that everything is locked in place properly and close your door. At this point the descaling program should be finished. You’ll be good for brewing fresh coffee every morning again.
