Appliance Repair Cost: What You Can Expect to Spend

No one plans for appliance troubles, so when they do happen, it’s a race to fix the problem quickly and affordably. While recent surveys reveal that the average cost for appliance repair is around $175, the cost could actually be much greater, depending on what the damage is. The best line of defense is knowledge, by which we mean knowing common appliance issues and the appliance repair cost for each problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I submit a service request?

A service request can be placed through our website by clicking the above link or clicking here. When calling into place a service appointment, it's always best to have the model and serial number of the appliance ready, as well as an accurate description of the problem and the appliance's warranty information so that one of our Customer Service Representatives can schedule your appointment as fast as possible.

What should I expect during the service process?

After submitting a request, your CSR will verify your information and schedule a date for repair. Emergent requests like leaking units and refrigerator cooling issues may be scheduled as early as the day you placed the call. We will send you a three-hour time window the day before your appointment via text or phone call, whichever method you opt for. Our technicians will also call you as they are on their way to your home, if you request. They will arrive with the proper equipment to protect your home and diagnose your service issues. If you opt for repair of the appliance, one of our Customer Service Representatives will follow up with a second call to schedule the repair.

Is Don's Appliances accepting new appliance repair customers?

Not at this time. Because our current lead time on service calls is extremely high, we are unable to take service requests from new customers. If you are a Don’s Appliances customer, fill out our appliance service request form and someone will reach out within 1 business day to schedule your appointment. We only provide service for appliances purchased at Don’s Appliances, but if you have purchased from us in the past, we will service all units in your home that are not under warranty, even if a unit was bought elsewhere.

What happens if my appliance is not worth repairing?

If our factory-certified technician determines that your kitchen or laundry appliance is beyond reasonable repair, we provide a $50 credit toward the purchase of a new unit, so your diagnostic fee does not feel like a lost investment. The credit is valid for 30 days following your service call and can be used at any Don’s Appliances or Duggan’s Service & Appliance location in Pittsburgh, PA, Erie, PA and Morgantown, WV. Our in-stock appliances and free next-day delivery help you replace it quickly.

Which appliance brands do your technicians repair?

Don’s Appliances is a factory-authorized servicer for over 50 brands, and our in-house technicians are certified to repair all major appliance brands we carry, from luxury kitchen appliances to everyday essentials. Every technician is factory-trained and certified, and our team completes brand-specific training regularly to stay current on the latest appliance technology. Because our technicians are factory-trained and in-house, we have direct access to factory-authorized manufacturer parts, helping us complete your repair during the first visit.

What areas does your appliance repair service cover?

Our EPA-friendly service team provides appliance repair across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland within a fifty-mile radius of our service centers. Diagnostic fees are based on your distance from our Robinson Twp. headquarters and our Erie, PA and Morgantown, WV showrooms, with Zone 1 covering 1-25 miles and Zone 2 covering 26-50 miles. If you live outside that radius, visit or call one of our local showrooms and our team will confirm whether your address is eligible for service.

How much does appliance repair typically cost?

Recent surveys show the average appliance repair costs around $175, though the final price can be much greater depending on the damage. Our appliance repair cost guide breaks down common problems, such as a refrigerator thermostat replacement that can cost up to $450, ice maker repairs around $300 and a dishwasher hose replacement around $50 to $100. When our technician diagnoses your appliance, you receive a quote for labor and parts before any work begins, so you know the exact cost upfront.

Can I buy an extended service plan for my appliances?

Yes, Don’s Appliances offers extended warranty repair service protection plans on all new kitchen and laundry appliances. These plans help protect you from the future cost of unexpected repairs after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, with service provided by our factory-certified, in-house technicians.
