    What's in your Drinking Water?

    Worried about your Drinking Water?

Tap water that we consume can contain dangerous chemicals that leach into the ground water from lakes, streams, or rivers. This water is also treated with harsh chemicals from our water treatment facilities. We need to understand what is in the water that we drink, wash with, use for cooking, and bathe in and what can do we do to eliminate these harmful contaminants.

    How is our Water Contaminated?

Ground water can be contaminated by any activity whereby chemicals and/or wastes are released into the environment. An example of this a chemical and/or oil spill. Landfills also oftentimes end up being the home for hazardous waste. These chemicals can leach into the ground water by means of precipitation and surface run off. Sewer and other pipelines sometimes leak fluids into surrounding soil and ground water. Once the ground water is contaminated, it is extremely difficult and costly to clean.

    How is Contaminated Water Treated?

Water treatment facilities use chemicals to disinfect. Chlorine is the most common disinfectant. Most treatment facilities have also started using Chloramine which is a mixture of Chlorine and Ammonia. Chloramine is very aggressive on the pipes which is why facilities only use it 6 months out of the year. While Chlorine and Chloramine have their own health risks, there are over 80,000 chemicals that are unstudied and largely unregulated in our tap water.

How can we Reduce or Eliminate These Contaminants?

There are several options on the market for filtering our water, some of which are better than others. Many refrigerators have their own filters which do not always say what exactly they are filtering out of our water.

Environmental Water Systems (EWS) is manufactured in the United States and is the leader in quality filtration. Their EWS Spectrum V2 whole house filtration system will protect your family from absorbing harmful chemicals while bathing and showering, and will also deliver safer water to your appliances and faucets throughout your house. The EWS Spectrum V2 is suitable for any home on city water treated with Chlorine or Chloramine. It will also eliminate the harmful ground chemicals such as PVC, pesticides, THMs, PFAS, and much more. The EWS Spectrum V2 requires a drain and will require a plumber for installation.

Another product EWS offers which provides consumers with clean water is their MAX FLOW. The MAX FLOW installs under-counter directly on your cold-water line. It can be installed on your kitchen faucet or any other faucet in your home. The Max Flow will remove and reduce chlorine, chloramine, lead, cysts, THMs, VOCs, PFAS, pharmaceutical residues, dyes, fuels, and more. One filter will last up to 1 year or 1500 gallons of water. Like in its name, it will also not restrict flow.

These filtration options are also taking out more chemicals than they do in bottled water. Let’s do our part to eliminate plastic water bottles in our landfills and protect our families and pets with these great solutions from EWS.

Below are the two solutions mentioned above along with links to a complete list of the contaminants that each take out:
