The Importance of Fridge & Freezer Temperature Settings
How do you know what the best temperature is to keep the different sections of your fridge at? What features do modern fridges have to keep your food cold and preserve it longer? We are going to go over the general temperature settings on your fridge, and why they are important.
We are displaying the Samsung Bespoke 29 Cu. Ft. French Door Fridge and the cooling features this new model has. It will vary depending on your model of fridge, but you will still want to keep these settings in mind.
With the constant opening and closing of the fridge door, it’s important to monitor that your fridge is staying at a consistent 37 to 38 degrees. Anything warmer, your groceries won’t keep as long, and anything colder you might get frost or freezing. Some fridges are designed so frost doesn’t form, but some models don’t so that’s why this is important to monitor. This model has crisper drawers for produce. These drawers have a humidity control of high for vegetables, and low for fruits.
Our Samsung Bespoke also has a flex zone implementation. This will control temperature for different areas of the fridge. Most will organize their vegetables into one area, meat and cheese in another, and beverages in the door or shelves. You may have your deli drawer at 37 degrees, the area with beverages at 34 degrees, and wherever you’ve placed raw fish and meats at 30 degrees. The freezer has temperature control as well.
You don’t want this to be too cold to the point where your freezer items are getting freezer burnt. A great temperature to keep your freezer at so you keep things frozen, but don’t take away from the freshness is 0 degrees. This may need adjusted based on what you’re keeping frozen, or if you are in a hotter area.
Some fridges, like the Samsung bespoke, come with a soft- freeze drawer. You can place your ice cream in here so it’s still frozen, but you don’t have to wait for it to thaw out. If you find that you want to extend the shelf life of your perishable items in the fridge, you can place those groceries in here as well. This will hold a temperature of about 20 to 23 degrees.
You’ll notice that whenever you have your doors or drawers open for too long, some models will begin to beep. This is ensuring that you remember to close the door completely. For models that don’t have it, what can happen is the door won’t close completely which means that the cold air will leak out, warming up your fridge or freezer.
Your food can end up going bad, or the ice in your freezer can start to melt which can lead to water leaking from your fridge. This feature ensures you keep the doors closed so the internal temperature stays consistent in your fridge. Proper cooling is important for lengthening the shelf life of your groceries. That is the most important reason as to why you should monitor the temperatures inside your fridge, and adjust temperature zones based on what you’re storing.
