    Temper-Pedic vs. Serta

    by Steph Churchel

TEMPUR-pedic and Serta, you would have to try to a considerable degree not to be familiar with these brands. They’re two of the longest standing and most respected mattress brands in the U.S. today. In fact, just as we refer to the general term “window cleaner” as “Windex,” many people call their memory foam mattress “TEMPUR-pedic,” even when it’s not TEMPUR’s patented, NASA tested, memory foam. Serta has a similar story, and I bet when I said the name, you pictured the Serta counting sheep that have been the mascots of their marketing campaigns since the year 2000, “ the sheep you love not to count.”

TEMPUR and Serta so that you can make a better-informed decision based on your needs.

TEMPUR-pedic introduced its first TEMPUR mattress 30 years ago. The key features of the patented memory foam TEMPUR uses is its adaptability to your body responding to body temperature, weight, and shape for personalized comfort. Its soft material minimizes pressure points that keep you awake and eliminates motion transfer so your partner can sleep next to you undisturbed.

Even though the patented memory foam is the foundation of the TEMPUR brand, they are constantly researching and innovating new technology. A few of the newest are the TEMPUR-Breeze cooling, SmartClimate System, EasyRefresh and TEMPUR-ES. All of these new technologies deliver cooler, softer, more durable support.

Parallel to TEMPUR’s reputation for comfort is their reputation for price. Barring any promotions, a queen mattress retails for anywhere between $2500 and $4500. They offer free delivery, a 90-night trial, and a 10-year limited warranty.

Now onto the company whose slogan suggests their mattress will make you fall asleep immediately, no sheep counting necessary. Serta made its big debut in 1931 with their Perfect Sleeper mattress, since then they brought to market their iComfort Sleep System mattress with gel memory foam. Serta has earned a long list of achievements since the inception of the company including introducing the first pillow top mattress, introducing a continuous coil innerspring design, becoming the first brand in the industry to make all of its mattresses meet or exceed the federal flammability standard, held the title of America’s most recommended mattress as well as a few others.

Today, Serta sells a wide array of mattresses: mattresses in a box, the Perfect Sleeper, its cornerstone iComfort line and hotel mattresses with a diverse pricing structure ranging from $229 to $2800. They offer free delivery and free in-home trial.
