It's October– time for Halloween funtivities, pumpkin everything and fundraising for the American Cancer Society's Real Men Wear Pink Campaign.

The American Cancer Society (ACS)- we all know the name, it's one of the largest and longest standing non-profit agencies in the U.S. whose purpose (as the name implies) is grounded in freeing our population from cancer through research, the exchange of expert information, patient support and awareness of cancer prevention.

Of course, a charity organization of this scope needs money–a lot of money– to operate. While foundation and government grants may assist in covering operational costs, each ACS chapter relies on its community for support. Cue Don's Appliances.

Don's Appliances has partnered with ACS on many campaigns over the past 10 years, the most notable being Making Strides, Relay for Life and Real Men Wear Pink. It's part of our mission statement, our "why", the reason we exist. We recognize the loyalty our local Pittsburgh Community has shown us, and give back through catalysts like ACS. We would be hard-pressed to find someone in the US who hasn't felt the devastating effects of cancer on a personal level. It's a passion and a cause that is close to many of our employees resulting in active participation in the Making Strides walk and Real Men Wear Pink fundraisers.

Tim Hillebrand, one of the company Principals, was nominated for three years in a row to represent Don's in the ACS Real Men Wear Pink campaign resulting in over 20,000 dollars to keep the Washington chapter of ACS successful! This year, the baton was handed to Sales Associate and Experience Center Coordinator, Bob Robertson to be the face, the "Real Man" of our campaign. (Go, Bob!) Bob has been supporting the charity since 2013 and was a natural fit for the important role of fundraising and representing Don's Appliances throughout the campaign.

We recognize that there are many causes to give to, many competing events to fill up your schedule. If the mission of ACS aligns with your interests and values, you can support RMWP of Pittsburgh in their quest to raise $200k by donate to Bob's campaign here https://bit.ly/2IzS58x or sign up for our CycleBar charity ride here https://robinson.cyclebar.com/class-detail/?apptid=11603781
