Tips for Loading Sheets into Your Washer and Dryer | Help Eliminate Tangles & Wrinkles!

Sheets can be frustrating to wash, especially when they get tangled in your washer or dryer; and tangled mess of sheets also means tons of wrinkles. Though wrinkles aren’t always avoidable, we have some tips on ensuring your sheets don’t get jumbled together in a mess. We all want clean sheets with minimal wrinkles!

    Before Starting:

    • Wash your sheets and comforter separate.
    • Don’t overload your washer! You want enough space for soap and water to thoroughly clean your sheets. Ideally, you will probably want to wash these on their own, or with a few small items too like pillowcases.

Tips for Loading Sheets in a Front Load Washer

For a fitted sheet, bunch it together so that the elastic is tucked to the inside of a loose bundle. Basically, fold the elastic under the rest of the sheet. This will help prevent it from opening and getting caught on itself or your regular sheets. We’ve all had times where other laundry gets caught in the fitted sheet.

Loosely fold your regular sheets into a pile (it doesn’t have to be neat). You’ll just be doing the same thing where you tuck the corners loosely under.

Now your sheets are ready to be placed (not thrown) into the washer. Use your arm to check if there is enough room for your sheets to move. If you can place your arm all the way through to the back, you haven’t overloaded your washer.

Tips for Loading Sheets in a Top Load Washer

Following the same technique as the front load washer, tuck your fitted and regular sheets into each other in a loose pile before placing them in. How you will spread them out will depend on if you have an agitator or no agitator on your top load washer. Agitator You’ll still want to tuck the ends of your sheets under and make a loose pile but be mindful that you don’t want to wrap your sheets around the agitator.

This is how they get caught or wrapped around it during the wash cycle. If you tuck the ends into a loose ball, this will likely help in preventing that. No Agitator Like the front load washer, once you’ve placed your sheets in use your arm to see if you can reach the bottom of the washer. If you can, there is enough room for your sheets to move and get an effective clean.

Tips for Loading Sheets in a Dryer

Move one piece over at a time. You don’t want to pile all your sheets together and just throw them in, especially if you want less wrinkles. Again, make a loose heap pile with your sheets and place them into your dryer.

Something that also helps with wrinkles is having a dryer with a steam function. This will add a step to the drying cycle where it will steam clothes, or bedding, removing most wrinkles.

Things to Avoid When Washing & Drying Sheets/Bedding

Don’t make a tight bundle when folding the sheets Avoid throwing the sheets in as is or super loose Try not to throw everything in together all at once in a pile Of course, not every sheet will be completely wrinkle free, but hopefully this helps with any tangles in the washer or dryer that you might have in the future.
