69 donsappliances.com DON’T PASS ON YOUR DREAM HOUSE — IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES. When Susan and Dennis Patton of Moon Township started their house hunt, they had one goal in mind: more space to entertain family and friends. “We had been looking for a house for about six years,” Susan said. “We finally found one that we liked, but knew it needed some work. We asked Todd Klippa, the owner of TK Construction, to come to the house before we purchased it. We walked from room to room telling him our vision – tear this down, open this wall up. He said everything was in the realm of possibility.” From there, the Pattons bought the house, brought in architect Robert Gaskill to draw up the designs and hired TK Construction for the renovating. Redrafting a 90s creation Built in the late 1990s, the home lacked style and was not very functional. The house was very compartmentalized, with a small and narrow kitchen. The first step in the remodel was to change the footprint of the home. A 6-foot addition, that once was a sunroom, was added to the existing kitchen and two load-bearing walls were demolished to open up the space. With that, the kitchen was now an open 16x30 foot space. To modernize the room, quartz countertops were installed around the perimeter of the kitchen and on the island. Shades of white and grey were used throughout the space, from the walls to the cabinets, and engineered hardwood in 7” planks were put down. Two beautiful chandeliers were installed above the island, and recessed lighting added warmth to the space. In shopping for hoods, the Pattons weren’t thrilled with any of the prebuilt options, so TK Construction built a custom creation. Klippa said they “took elements from different hoods and combined them. It was built out of poplar wood with a BEST insert and was painted grey to match the greys and whites in the rest of the home.” Next up, it was time to shop for appliances. “ …took elements from different hoods and combined them. It was build out of poplar wood with BEST insert and was painted grey to match the greys and whites in the rest of the home. ”
