4 Common Issues With Cooktops and Rangetops | What Could Be Wrong and How to Fix
Why is My Oven Taking So Long to Preheat?
Most new ovens have been designed where the bake element is hidden. It is common to see them underneath the base of the oven, where they aren’t exposed. The bake element will need to heat first before the inside of your oven heats. It may seem like your ovens preheat is taking so long since the bake elements need to preheat first before the inside of the oven itself. If you have a convection oven at home, it might be best to use convection when baking. Convection heats faster since it is an even heat all around your oven, and there tends to be a speed preheat option on most convection ovens. Convection is a faster heat since it heats simultaneously to bring the temperature up.
Why do my oven temperatures seem inaccurate?
Every time you open the oven, the oven will lose about 75 degrees of heat. Since the bake element is hidden in most newer ovens, this contributes to the oven taking longer to heat up. If you are opening and closing the door, the bake element will need to reheat to regain the lost temperature. One way to combat this is by using convection bake. You would need to have an oven capable of convection heating, which are fans that blow the heat all around the inside of the oven.
Why is my igniter clicking but there is no flame lighting on my burner?
This is one of the most common issues when it comes to lighting the burners on a gas range. One of the simplest fixes is to check and make sure everything around your burners is correctly screwed on, and tight. Most burners have a removable base. Make sure everything is screwed in tightly, and evenly in place. There is typically a burner cap on every type of burner. This can sometimes be askew so check that this is also placed on correctly and not crooked. Caps will either clip or just sit on top of the burners. If there are even slightly crooked there will be no sparks to start a flame. The cap must sit right so a spark can bounce off it to ignite.
My induction burners aren’t working?
Make sure you use induction compatible cookware. This would need to be magnetic or induction safe cookware. Your typical aluminum or ceramic cookware might not work on this. If you have induction and the cookware you have isn’t working, you may need to invest in a new set of magnetic cookware. If you have magnetic cookware and it is still not working, double check to make sure all your electrical connections for the induction are plugged in correctly.
